Julian at the Horstead Open Studios | 19th/20th July; 10 – 4pm on Saturday and 10 – 3pm on Sunday
Horstead's next exciting new venture is a weekend celebrating art in the Horstead Centre, the Church and the Tithe Barn. In the Horstead Centre there will be studios of local artists open with a chance to meet the artists and try out some new skills. We will also be displaying some of the work that the artists have been doing with three local schools, Frettenham Primary School, Coltishall Primary school and Hainford C of E school.
The Church is also hosting a Craft Fair and refreshments in the Tithe Barn over the weekend. We have space for a couple more crafts so please get in touch if you would like to take part.
Lucy Care, a Trustee of the Friends of Julian, writes...
In the Church we are hosting by a visit from Julia Van Griensven, an artist who lives now in France and has exhibited widely both here and in France. She took part in the 650 Julian of Norwich exhibition in 2023 with Lucy Care, and Anna Moschenska and Rosie Evenett who is the resident artist at the Horstead Centre who has opened her studio also.
Julia writes: ‘There is no doubt that Julian of Norwich was an artist, based on how she described what she saw. In All Saints, Horstead Church, with its beautiful stained-glass window depicting Julian, I aim to interpret/capture Julian's images and writing, from a contemporary art perspective.’
The Friends of Julian have commissioned a new work from Julia based on our amazing East Window with its rare depiction of Julian of Norwich and the Tree of Life. There will be free talks about the Pre- Raphaelite stained glass windows on both days at 11am, and Julia will be working in the church all weekend. She intends both to create a piece with the help of our visitors who would like to take part and to make one of her own.
The weekend will finish with a ‘Songs of Praise’ on Sunday in the church at 4pm. This will celebrate creativity in all its forms. Do come along and enjoy all that is on offer over the weekend. Entrance is entirely free of charge.
