Julian Lent Book Group Week 5
Are you coming to the Lent Book Group this afternoon? Remember, if you've had to miss a session, it's fine just to come along anyway.
If you do want to watch last week's meeting, here's the recording:

The first two weeks' recordings are also available on our YouTube channel.
Books, Books, Books
In order to maintain the group as a safe space for sharing, we don't record the group discussion, but wanted to share with you some links to books that Friends and Companions shared last week, including the Revelations, The Book of Margery Kempe and Mary Sherratt's novel:
Revelations of Divine Love
Also often referred to as The Revelations of Julian of Norwich or The Showings of Julian of Norwich, the British Library has digitized both the Short Text and the Long Text, so if you want to see them in Middle English from your own computer desktop, you can:
- The Short Text of Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love - brief introduction and then scroll down for link to the digitized images of the manuscript: https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/the-short-text-of-julian-of-norwichs-revelations-of-divine-love
- The Long Text, MS Stowe 42: http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/FullDisplay.aspx?ref=Stowe_MS_42
There are many versions of the Revelations in modern English. The classic is Barry Windeatt's, which is available in Oxford World's Classics series (and as a very pretty Folio Society volume): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324702740070
In our discussion, people also mentioned Mirabai Starr's version (which is about to come out in a new edition) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324834121548 - and Sheila Upjohn's Daily Readings - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324759186106.
Sister Wendy Beckett's CD of the Revelations is also very popular: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325045778276
If you are looking for a straightforward introduction to Julian of Norwich, Dr Janina Ramirez's is extremely popular: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324578520089
There are, of course, many more. The links here are to our ebay shop, which you can search for yourself at https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/friendsofjulianofnorwich
WorldCat will give you an idea of holdings in libraries - and you can set it to libraries near you - https://www.worldcat.org/
The Book of Margery Kempe
The British Library has digitised the manuscript: https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/the-book-of-margery-kempe (scroll down for the link to the digitized pages of Add MS 61823).
There are several modern editions of The Book of Margery Kempe. Here are a few on WorldCat: https://www.worldcat.org/title/book-of-margery-kempe/oclc/1239794522/editions
Mary Sherratt has written a novel, Revelations, based on Margery Kempe's meeting with Julian of Norwich, in which the novelist imagines one way in which Julian's words may have travelled from her Cell out into the wider world, with Margery as the main courier: https://marysharratt.com/main/books/revelations-a-novel-by-mary-sharratt/ Several people in last week's meeting recommended this novel.
Margaret Mary McFadyen has been posting daily in her Sunflower Seed Spirituality blog, and sharing recordings on her podcast:
