Short New Local Video Introducing Julian
William Thornhill writes,
"Why I’m doing the channel: Recently retired from journalism, and having gone on an inspiring course, I’m having fun making short videos. I’m still a novice, having only made a half dozen short films but, since October, the process has been the most rewarding part of it, from foundational research to creative writing, through to sound and video editing. There is so much new tech coming onto the scene it really feels like the creative process has just been given a huge lift.
"What prompted me to make a film on Julian: Julian of Norwich stood out as a great story to tell because of her core message of love and compassion, which resonates with many people today. But also because of her portrayal of the divine, and the fact she was the first women to have had a book published in English.
I was drawn to her as an anchorite in some sense partly because I’ve also practised mediation and, since retiring, attended a 10-day silent retreat. The retreat was not easy to start with, but in the end, I had some kind of breakthrough which was, in itself, a sort of a miracle!

The Julian video is on in my new YouTube channel, @NorfolkNarr8. I live in Norwich and have recently begun to appreciate Norfolk’s long rich history and its many strange local folklore stories. This seems to offer a rich seam of absorbing, entertaining content. I’m also very keen to put a modern day spin on these stories, giving them a viewpoint that draws people in with something that's tangibly meaningful.
"What’s planned?: My plan is to continue posting videos on the channel about once every week or two. The latest one is on something utterly different – the Rougham Timelapse. I’m always open to suggestions and new ideas and I’d welcome any feedback – positive or negative.
I would be lying if I didn’t also say there is also, some kind of gratification from seeing the algorithms do their job in terms of the ‘likes’, ‘views’ and ‘subscribers’ that the channel attracts!"
